So, what do you get when you bring together powerful stories, a mission-driven workshop and a good dose of inspiration and insights?
An afternoon to remember.
On Wednesday, June 4, WIFS in partnership with Capital Group hosted an inspiring event full of real conversations, new perspectives and tangible impact. After a warm welcome by Lediane Toledo (Capital Group) and Henk Jansen (WIFS), we continued with the keynote.
Alexandra Haggard shared her personal story of visibility, resilience and the importance of taking up space precisely when it comes to (in)visible limitations. A powerful example of disability confidence.
Moderated by Nelsy Salden-Rebbens, her keynote was honest, open and powerful. Alexandra:
"I learned that when I changed the way I sat and spoke, I was suddenly heard And once I had that space, I used it to help change the workplace for everyone."
The keynote was followed by an interactive workshop, led by Polle Doing. We built six prosthetic hands in small teams for The Hand Project EU. A project with a life-changing impact for those who receive these hands. Like Veronica Kidemi, who we spoke with via Zoom.
After losing her hand as a result of domestic violence, she received a prosthetic hand from The Hand Project, which supported her in regaining her resilience and dignity. Veronica:
"I collected the pieces of the broken Veronica and built the new me. Also thanks to The Hand project, who gave me some dignity back."
We finished the day with a some networking drinks and valuable conversations.
We greatly appreciate all attendees and Capital Group for an impactful afternoon. Together we make a difference. Change starts with really listening, making space, giving space and taking space.
